Anheuser-Busch & Budco Partner to assist the San Antonio River Foundation.
June 6, 2006
Anheuser-Busch announced a $160,000 donation to the San Antonio River Foundation that will assist in the restoration of the footbridge from the former Lone Star brewery established by Adolphus Busch in the mid 1880s. The footbridge will be a part of the Foundation’s enhancement project for the waterways that have defined the downtown district. The company’s local distributor, BudCo, recently donated land to the City of San Antonio valued at over $150,000 to serve as a public park for the Hays Street Bridge, which also will be restored for pedestrians and bicyclists on the other side of U.S. Highway 281 from the footbridge restoration project.
“Anheuser-Busch believes in investing in the communities in which we do business,” said Dan Decker, executive vice president and general manager of Anheuser-Busch’s SeaWorld San Antonio. “Since 1883 when Adolphus Busch founded and organized the Lone Star Brewing Company, Anheuser-Busch has remained a dedicated corporate citizen in San Antonio and is committed to fostering economic growth throughout the city and the state of Texas.”
“The Foundation is grateful for the donations by Anheuser-Busch and BudCo,” said Edward E. Collins III, president of the San Antonio River Foundation. “The brewing industry has long played a key role in the history of San Antonio and we are delighted to have the support of Anheuser-Busch in our efforts to enhance and preserve the waterways of our community.”
The mission of the San Antonio River Foundation is to secure community involvement and financial resources to enhance the natural beauty, recreational use and public appreciation of the entire River and its tributaries in Bexar, Wilson, Karnes and Goliad Counties.
