Anheuser-Busch ¡Homerunazo!
March 13, 2005
Budweiser and 16 Major League Baseball teams once again are hitting home runs for Latino students in major cities across the United States as part of the Budweiser ¡Homerunazo! program.
Throughout the 2005 season, Anheuser-Busch and its distributors will contribute $100 to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest Hispanic scholarship program, and other local charities when home team players hit home runs.
Now in its seventh season nationally, Budweiser ¡Homerunazo! is an innovative scholarship program in which Latino students win whenever the home team hits homers. Last year, the program raised $160,000 for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and other local charities, bringing the total funds raised under this program to approximately $650,000.
Current participating teams include: Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.
“Even a one-run homer can turn into a grand slam for deserving Hispanic students in Major League Baseball markets,” said Jesus Rangel, vice president, Sales Development and Community Relations, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Because of the Budweiser ¡Homerunazo! program, a home run is more than just a baseball statistic; for many in the Latino community, it’s also a reason to celebrate. As longtime supporters of the Latino community, Anheuser-Busch is excited to provide educational opportunities to deserving students through our association with the HSF and other local charities.”
In most instances, Anheuser-Busch distributors in participating major league cities provide support for the program by matching the company’s cash donations in their regions. On average, a $10,000 donation will be made to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and other local charities on behalf of Budweiser and its distributors in each market culminating with a check presentation at the end of the regular season.
