Animal safety & pet care by K. Fernandez & Associates.
May 27, 2006
K. Fernandez & Associates created new public service announcements for the Humane Society SPCA of Bexar County by donating time and talent along with San Antonio based production companies, Bauhaus Media Group and New Age Recordings. The new TV and radio spots in Spanish and English convey through humor, the need for pet owners to be responsible for their pets.
For a second time in three years, K. Fernandez has created PSAs for the Humane Society in an effort to raise general awareness among pet owners to spay and neuter their pets and to bring to the forefront the need for responsible care of pets and animals. Through its industry relationships, K. Fernandez has brought in donated time from production houses, recording studios, design folks, make up artists, and voice over talent.
Nearly 50,000 dogs and cats a year are euthanized in the City of San Antonio. The City is in dire need of an educational awareness campaign on humane treatment and care through the process of neutering and spaying of ones pets.
“The idea of creating the spots is to get across the seriousness of the animal control problem we see in this area,” says Karla Fernandez Parker of K. Fernandez & Associates. “We didn’t want to be preachy, but we wanted to make pet owners and people in general aware of pets and their care. It’s great that this campaign will now touch more of the public across the State.”
The first TV spot features actor Ben McKinley dressed as a dog, demonstrating the plight of an outside dog that is sometimes overlooked when it comes to their needs such as attention, feeding, and adjustment of the collar. The second spot shows Ben as the dog again, but this time dogs keep multiplying behind him, suggesting that un-neutered dogs that go out “only have one thing on their mind.” Each spot finishes with the tagline: “It takes a human to have a pet. Be humane.”
The 4-:30 radio and 4-:30 TV spots were produced in both English and Spanish and have begun airing in San Antonio. The spots were so well received by the Texas Federation of Humane Societies, K. Fernandez & Associates and Bauhaus Group will produce a statewide version for use in Texas by other humane groups. The estimated value for both radio and TV spots in donated time and talent is well over $100,000.
