Atlanta-Journal Constitution Acquires Mundo Hispanico.
April 3, 2004
Mundo Hispanico and Mundo Hispanico Yellow Pages announced that the Atlanta-Journal Constitution (AJC), part of the Cox Enterprises Inc., acquired the bilingual publications.
The weekly Hispanic newspaper will retain the current staff under the new ownership. Lino Dominguez, editor of Mundo Hispanico said that the small publication, with a weekly circulation of 55,000, has had successful results since it was launched in 1979. But competition has grown, and the newspaper had to find other ways to improve and expand.
“We can’t compete without the necessary resources,” said Dominguez.
Dominguez said that the AJC, the major daily in Atlanta, will provide many benefits such as better technology, human resources and news coverage including photos and op-ed that both newspapers will share.
Negotiations were initiated in July of last year, when AJC’s representatives showed interest in buying Mundo Hispanico. Lino Dominguez will remain as director of Mundo Hispanico after signing a three-year contract with AJC.
