Award-winning production team puts the finishing touches on Our Stories; the untold truth about Maria’s impact.

The Puerto Rican filmmaker Yael Deynes is in the editing phase of Our Stories – Nuestras Historias, project that many consider will be his masterpiece.  “For us Puerto Ricans, Hurricane Maria was and is, the bullet that we could not recover from ourselves. For two weeks I suffered the anguish of not knowing if my mother was dead or alive. I realized that I was not alone and my uncertainty, pain, and despair, along with thousands of others, became known to the world”  said Deynes who is the author, creator, and director of the film.

The intention of this piece, for which Deynes invested over 300 hours interviewing people, ” is to offer the opportunity to that the voices of those who lived through the devastation can tell the truth to the world about what Hurricane Maria caused, brought and took away.  His extraordinary ability to penetrate into the most intimate part of our senses until it takes our breath away, and then lift us up to take us on a makes Yael’s work a masterpiece that will be part of the film legacy of the history of Puerto Rico ” Added Sara López, founder, and CEO of Puerto Rico Rises, a non-profit organization composed of 98% of women volunteers who have impacted over 100,000 people around the island. “Our Stories” will donate to this organization the money raised at the Premiere Gala Dinner to be held on September 20 of this year.

The production team that collaborates  on  this piece, whose cost exceeds $100,000, is composed of the renowned producer Marsha Posner Williams, winner of two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes   for the  famous series The Golden Girls; award-winning cinematographer Diego Torroija; Angel Vazquez, musical composer nominated for a Latin Grammy; Jota Santa, composer of the musical theme, and Sebastian Silva, editor and co-founder of Lorn Films, producer of the film.
 
The scope and impact of the pieces by Yael Deynes have led him to receive international awards for his projects My Secret Lake and Who We Are,  which just received a Telly Award after competing with other filmmakers from 50 states and 5 continents.

With an impressive record of over 20 million views and shares of his short films on social networks, Deynes comments on the proliferation of projects launched onHurricane Maria where the tendency is to emphasize the misfortune suffered or failures “ That’s why I’m doing this, because the image of Puerto Rico on a global level, depends on those voices being heard. We want to make sure that the world and the future generations of Puerto Ricans understand that in addition to pain there was also courage and unity, but above all that they are witnesses of the power of humility of those who did not hesitate to come out to help, facing extremes challenges, it became an extraordinary feat.“  For her part, Lopez, who also serves as the Media and Marketing Director of the film, added emphatically  “This is not another movie about Maria. It is the voice that has not yet been heard and the undeniable right that we all have to know the truth”.

“Our Stories” is launching their official website of the film at www.OurStoriesFilm.com where they will be uploading interviews that cannot be included in the final film due to lack of time and space but those voices will add it to the website on a weekly basis because those voices are worthy to be heard. The production is in negotiations with sponsors who support the project to cover the costs of filming and editing, as well as with Netflix and Amazon Prime for the launch of this very important project.
