Axis Agency declares indépendance from Interpublic Group (IPG)

The Axis Agency announced that its leadership team, Armando Azarloza, CEO, and Carmen Lawrence, COO, has acquired ownership of the brand from its parent company, Interpublic Group (IPG).

The deal establishes The Axis Agency as an independent, minority-owned company; IPG retains a minority stake.

Founded in 2005 as part of Weber Shandwick’s ecosystem of specialist brands, Axis has grown to represent a broad range of Fortune 500 companies as organizations increasingly seek to ensure their marketing approach is designed to meet the needs of a diverse marketplace. IPG’s investment reflects the holding company’s commitment to empower minority-owned businesses and help to drive their growth.

“Today is a proud day for Axis.  In the highly competitive world of marketing, Axis stands out for our focus on strategy, creativity and diversity, which has helped client brands reach their full potential in the U.S. multicultural markets,” said Armando Azarloza, CEO of The Axis Agency.  “Axis’ achievements are a testament to our ability to deliver unique cultural insights and purpose-driven campaigns for our clients.  Our priority is to continue to drive that path forward and strengthen our position along with our clients by continuing to advocate for diverse markets.”

“For more than 15 years, Axis has delivered award-winning approaches that have helped our clients reach and engage diverse communities,” said Gail Heimann, president & CEO, Weber Shandwick. “We are proud of what the Axis team achieved within our family and proud of IPG’s role in catalyzing opportunity and growth for Axis and other firms. We look forward to partnering with Axis in their next chapter.”
