Azteca America which premieres in both Mexico and the United States this Tuesday, May 24 at 7 pm/6 C, marks the return of international telenovela actress Edith González who is joined by leading man Mauricio Islas and a phenomenal supporting cast.
“Cielo Rojo is a well-made telenovela. We have taken the time to properly develop this story with elements that include passion, intrigue, suspense, and betrayal. The characters range in age from young to old and the cast features international stars including the legendary Regina Torné and Hugo Stiglitz. It is a telenovela set primarily in haciendas. It represents Mexico well and features many settings that immigrants living in the United States will remember fondly,” stated Executive Vice President of Programming, Production, and Marketing for Azteca America, Alberto Santini Lara, who is also the General Director of Azteca 13 and Azteca Novelas in Mexico.
After a two-year absence from television in the United States, Edith González will make her Azteca America debut playing Alma, a woman willing to do anything to get back the daughter who was taken from her.
This production includes legendary actress Regina Torné and marks the return to television of Mexican actor and 1970s film star Hugo Stiglitz, who appeared in, among other films, John Huston’s Under the Volcano in 1984.
Cielo Rojo tells the story of Alma (Edith González) and Andrés (Mauricio Islas), whose love for each other is profound; nonetheless, they find themselves separated after a whirlwind of intrigue and deceit. When they meet again, they will try to escape together, but fate will intervene to keep them apart after she accidentally kills her husband. Twenty years later, Alma will leave prison surrounded by guilt, lies, and a series of missteps, but destiny will bring her closer to Andrés through their children, who have fallen madly in love with each other. Cielo Rojo features a strong young cast that includes Alejandra Lazcano and the debut of Lambada García as well as excellent international actors such as Andrea Noli, Alberto Casanova, and Colombian actress Aura Cristina Geithner making her return to television.
Drama, passion, and a great love story are the perfect ingredients to make Cielo Rojo a success. Directed by Rafael Uriostegui, this telenovela will feature four spectacular haciendas in Mexico City and the Mexican states of Querétaro and Hidalgo.
“With this, we demonstrate once again that Azteca America is concerned for Latin families and helps promote proper values through its programming. All of us who work here are passionate about what we do and are well aware of the responsibility that comes with these productions. We have a deep respect for our audience,” added Alberto Santini Lara.
