Balta named Senior Director of Multicultural Content for ESPN Digital & Print Media

ESPN has announced that SportsCenter coordinating producer Hugo Balta will take on a new role as Senior Director, Multicultural Content for the ESPN Digital & Print Media group beginning December 1.  In this new role, Balta will help raise the quality, profile and delivery of diverse newsgathering and storytelling.  He will report directly to Vice President & Executive Editor Kevin Jackson as well as advise Executive Vice President John Kosner on business strategies to better serve the domestic Hispanic audience.

Balta’s priorities will be to target both English and Spanish speaking U.S. Hispanics across ESPN’s digital and print platforms.  He will also be responsible for expanding ESPN’s efforts to serve sports fans worldwide by partnering with editorial leaders in Mexico and Latin America and across ESPN Deportes, helping grow coverage of sports in the Americas, drive native content for social media, and recruit diverse editorial talent to the team.

A dedicated advocate for advancing the welfare of the Latino community, Balta is the immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).  Additionally, at a recent Monday Night Football game, Balta was recognized by the NFL and the New York Jets for his volunteer leadership work.  He was also instrumental in the recent Hispanic Heritage Month “One Nacion” show.

Prior to joining ESPN in 2011, Hugo held several leadership roles at CBS, NBC, Telemundo and MSNBC over a career spanning 24 years.
