Barnes & Noble Tour Of Tejano Publications.

TexasTejano.com, a San Antonio-based research and publishing company, and Barnes and Noble Booksellers announced Tuesday that they will be joining forces to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting in-store book signing events highlighting Tejano historian and author, Rudi R. Rodriguez, around the state.

Mr. Rodriguez, founder of TexasTejano.com, recently completed two historical publications: “A Tejano Son of Texas: An Autobiography of Jose Policarpio Rodriguez” and “A Tejano Son of Texas: A Record Book.” Both of the books are the first releases by Rodriguez and his company. The autobiography is an in-depth look at the life of one of the state’s first pioneers, Jose Policarpio Rodriguez who was known as “Polly.” Originally published in the early 1900s, the autobiography recounts several years of adventure stories from Polly’s life as dictated by Polly himself. In fact, as a hunter, Army scout, Texas Ranger, Justice of the Peace and ordained minister, Polly was integral in the development of numerous government entities and infrastructure in several Texas counties and established the township now known as Bandera, Texas. During his lifetime, he also developed a mighty reputation throughout the state in the late 1800s because of his bravery and countless accomplishments. The record book is the companion publication to the autobiography and includes over 60 historical documents.

During the events, Barnes and Noble will be inviting the public to listen to brief readings from the publications by Mr. Rodriguez as well as view photos and other documents that are part of TexasTejano.com’s traveling historical exhibit of the same name.

“We are pleased to be able to bring the true story of this Hispanic pioneer to citizens during this month of celebration,” says Rodriguez, who is Polly’s great-great nephew. “We believe that Polly is a great example of the Tejano spirit and believe that recognition for him and all Tejano pioneers is long overdue. And, we are grateful that Barnes and Noble agrees.”
