DIRECTV Latin America (DIRECTV LA) announced that it has named Antonio B. Barreto senior vice president of Programming and Marketing for DIRECTV LA. His appointment is effective March 11th.
Barreto will oversee the operations of the Programming and Marketing department and will fill the vacancy created by the recent appointment of Milton Torres as the executive vice president responsible for the operations of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
Within programming, Barreto will be responsible for negotiating program acquisitions and on-air operations, along with defining the entertainment line-up for the region. He will also be responsible for market planning and product development, definition and promotion and the oversight of the World Cup operations. With regards to marketing, he will be responsible for the overall pan-regional marketing support for the DIRECTV service throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Before joining DIRECTV LA, Barreto was senior vice president and general manager of ESPN International. He was responsible for ESPN’s operations in Latin America, which include all regional and local television networks in the region, ESPN International, ESPN Dos in Mexico, ESPN Brasil and ESPN Sur in Argentina, as well as other business such as radio, syndication, affiliate sales and business development.
