Betty La Fea Is Beautiful For WNJU-TV / Telemundo 47 In NYC.

The series finale of the hit telenovela Betty La Fea became the highest rated program finale in the history of WNJU-TV/T47, the Telemundo owned and operated station in New York. According to the Nielsen NSI ratings measurement service, the one-hour broadcast on May 11th achieved a 3.9 household rating and a 71 share of viewing to Spanish-language television. The series premiered in August, 2000, and became an immediate sensation, capturing the attention of viewers and the media alike. For its entire run, the series averaged a 2.3 household rating, with a 47 share of viewing to Spanish-language television.
The spectacular performance of Betty La Fea on May 11th was just part of a huge ratings day for WNJU-TV/T47. On a sign-on/sign-off basis, the Telemundo station surpassed the average rating of its Spanish-language rival, WXTV, for the first time ever on a weekday, based on the NSI measurement service. Importantly, both the 6PM and the 11PM Noticiero T47 en Accion, local newscasts, which recently earned the Emmy award for outstanding single newscast, outperformed their direct competition.
