Bimbo and Takis to present Copa Univision 2013.

Bimbo and snack brand Takis, are title sponsors of Copa Univision 2013, one of the largest soccer tournaments held in Los Angeles. The tournament is Saturday, August 3 at Goals Soccer Center in South Gate, California.

The first place team in the adult male division and adult female division will each win a grand prize of $1,000. This year’s event is expected to attract more than 7,000 players and spectators.

“The tournament supports the youth in the Los Angeles area,” said Rafael Velez, marketing manager at Bimbo Bakeries USA. “We support initiatives that get youth exercising, teach important skills such as teamwork and help our local community.”

Velez adds that partnering with Copa Univision was a natural fit for Bimbo and Takis. Both brands are in Mexico where soccer is popular. The sport is growing in popularity here in the US.

“With soccer’s recent increase in popularity, it makes sense for Bimbo and Takis to get involved at the community level and reach consumers directly,” said Roberto Abad, senior brand manager for Takis. “This tournament is family-friendly and aligns with our company’s values, teaching today’s youth to be active and live a healthy lifestyle.”

“Of all the community events organized by Univision 34, Copa Univision L.A. is one of the most entertaining and exciting,” said Esther Mendoza Brown, promotions manager at KMEX-TV. “Our community looks forward to this soccer tournament year after year and the day is filled with fun for our clients, partners, volunteers, players and their families.”
