Bromley to close and Ernest has a new goal

The Smithsonian, a few weeks ago, opened a 20-year exhibit called The American Enterprise Series, which includes the work of Ernest Bromley along with his former partners Lionel Sosa, Al Aguilar, and many former and current associates. His agency, founded as Sosa and Associates, and most recently known simply as Bromley, evolved to become one of the largest U.S. Hispanic marketing companies.

Now, one of the “godfathers” of Hispanic marketing is taking a new turn. Set on earning his PhD in consumer behavior, he’s closing the doors to the San Antonio based agency.

Bromley made many marketing firsts, including producing and scheduling the first English language Hispanic TV campaign, which featured Selena for Coca Cola. The latest ad the agency produced was shot in Havana, Cuba, last month for Western Union. Bromley was the first American agency granted permission to film a TV campaign on the island, ever.

Ernest Bromley and the hundreds of associates that have worked with him over the last 34 years, consistently forged the way for creative and strategic multicultural marketing campaigns despite a multitude of challenges.  Today’s marketing landscape takes advantage of the road mapping and measuring that was done by Bromley.

“When we first started out, we had to change mindsets,” Bromley said. “Back in the 80s and 90s, no one really appreciated or understood the benefits of multicultural marketing. We had a lot of educating to do…for decades. We also had to use solid research to prove the value of our work. Today, Hispanic marketing is a given. Now, we compete with the major general market agencies in terms of the quality and strategy we provide our clients.”

Earlier this year, the agency was rewarded with 28 awards from the local Ad Federation.  The agency scored Gold, Silver, Bronze, and a Best of Show award for multiple brands.

The agency’s current clients will likely migrate to other Publicis Groupe companies, Bromley’s parent company. All efforts will be made to offer agency personnel employment opportunities with Publicis Groupe.

A farewell party and celebration of the legacy will take place at Bromley’s downtown San Antonio office later this month. A screening of the made-in-Cuba campaign, along with historical campaigns, will be featured.
