Canal SUR @ AT&T Broadband.
June 3, 2001
Canal SUR is now available to all AT&T Broadband subscribers throughout its systems in South Florida.
Arturo Delgado, Canal SUR’s Chairman, said that this important distribution agreement coupled with AT&T’s vision, will provide access to Canal SUR’s programming to more than 1 million households in South Florida.
Canal SUR’s distribution through AT&T Broadband, which began on June 19 of this year, extends from south Miami-Dade County to northern Broward County. In the upcoming months, distribution will be expanded to the Florida Keys, including Key West, and other areas not included in the initial launch. Canal SUR is included in the basic digital plan and can be seen by all subscribers with digital boxes without having to pay additional fees. Canal SUR is Channel 621 in the basic digital
platform.
Jorge Fiterre, executive in charge of Canal SUR’s distribution, explained that AT&T’s decision to offer Canal SUR was influenced by various factors, mainly, the response to a market study which revealed the need of Latin Americans to watch Canal SUR’s programming. In addition, Florida represents the most culturally-diverse Spanish-speaking population in the United States, with important communities of Cubans, Venezuelans, Colombians, Peruvians, Argentinians, and Puerto Ricans. Florida is the third state with the highest concentration of Latin Americans in the United States and in Florida this segment of the population has the highest average income per household.
