Canal 22 Internacional celebrates the 100th birthday of legendary Mexican comedia Mario Moreno Reyes, better known by his character name of “Cantinflas” during a special edition of Pantalla de Cristal airing at 11:30pm PT/12:30am CT on Saturday, August 13th, with an encore performance next Saturday, August 20th, in the same time period.
Mario Moreno Reyes, better known as “Cantinflas,” the character he immortalized, was born on August 12th 1911 in Mexico City. He was a dancer, boxer and a popular theater comedian. He acted in radio and started many movies and theater plays personifying a Mexican “bum” from the 30’s. Cantinflas was the master of evasion, of talking and saying nothing, of making a fool out of authorities using his spark and talent.
Host José Antonio Fernández interviews popular Mexican actor, producer and writer Andrés Bustamante, who will share his thoughts regarding the comedic legacy of Mario Moreno’s “Cantinflas” and his impact on Mexican popular culture, including his influence on Mexican’s common language and expressions as well as other aspects of the comedian’s work and life.
