Carolina Rice & Univision Radio Scholarship Program Celebrates Its 15th Year.
May 24, 2004
Univision Radio and Riviana Foods Inc. of Houston, Texas, announced the completion of their fifteenth year as partners in the Carolina Rice/Univision Radio Scholarship Program and the 2004 award winners. This program, begun in 1989, has awarded five $2000 scholarships to college bound high school seniors in each of the fifteen years of its existence. This year’s winners were: Morayma Cruz (Miss Carolina Rice), Irina Ikonsky, Jasmine Bruno, Sharon Paradis, Emily Caraballo and Khandice Stewart.
Rob Corr, National Sales Manager for Univision Radio New York’s Latino Mix Radio said, “We’re thrilled to be a part of the Carolina Rice/Univision Radio Scholarship Program. Year after year, the kids we meet during the selection process are inspiring. They give us a sense of hope for the future.”
“This program is designed to help families with the incidental college expenses such as clothing, travel, books and scores of other things that can drain a family budget but aren’t covered by the traditional financial aid packages,” said Alfredo J. Gomez, senior product manager for Riviana Foods. “But more importantly, the money is a well-deserved reward for a student who has excelled. Each of our winners is proud of this accomplishment, and encouraged to continue to strive for excellence.”
The awards were presented on May 13, 2004, at a traditional Hispanic restaurant in Manhattan, where students were joined by corporate executives, educators, family and friends.
The 2005 program begins October 1, 2004, and ends May 30, 2005. The selection process includes an essay contest and personal interviews. All high school seniors in the New York-New Jersey Metro Area are eligible to enter. Students may obtain entry forms from their high school college office or online at carolinarice.com/scholarship. The cash awards are paid directly to each winning student.
