Castro – Reporter @ WPIX-TV In NYC.

Marysol Castro, a reporter and anchor at cable TV’s “News 12 The Bronx,” has joined Tribune Broadcasting’s WPIX Channel 11 as a reporter, it was announced by Karen Scott, news director of The WB Television Network affiliate. Castro will report for “The WB11 News at Ten,” the station’s award-winning prime-time newscast, and for “The WB11 Morning News,” seen weekdays from 5:30 am to 8 am.

Castro who has filed stories for three of New York’s daily newspapers, the Times, News, and Newsday, had been a middle and high school teacher before changing careers in 1999.

“Marysol Castro is a welcome addition to the Channel 11 News team,” said Scott. “She has emerged as a talented and energetic journalist at an early point in her career. In addition, her fluency in Spanish is an advantage in covering many stories in our area.”

Castro’s career in Bronx TV news was nothing if not colorful. “In local cable news, the reporters are also the crew,” she said. “I was a ‘one woman band’ — carried my own camera and tripod. Hardly a day went by when I was in the field that a homeless guy didn’t offer to carry my equipment all day in return for ten dollars.”
