Center for Investigative Reporting & Univision announced partnership.

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) and Univision News announce a partnership to jointly produce investigative stories relevant to Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States and Latin America.

CIR, the oldest and largest non-profit investigative unit in the nation and Univision, the leading media company serving Hispanic America, are strategically looking to broaden their reach so that larger audiences have access to their high-quality investigations.  Univision, which reaches 96 percent of U.S. Hispanic households, leads the media industry in reaching Hispanics, the youngest and fastest-growing demographic. Together, the organizations will work closely to produce investigations that not only inform Hispanics on important civic issues, but that will also further engage and empower them to act and bring positive change to their communities.

“The partnership with Univision ties in with our strategy of reaching an ever growing and diverse audience,” said Robert J. Rosenthal, executive director of CIR. “Univision’s brand and huge audience across the U.S. and around the world make this collaboration a no brainer for CIR and a natural fit for both organizations. We look forward to doing memorable and important stories with Univision News.”

Univision News launched an award-winning investigative and documentary unit, Documentales Univision, which focuses on subjects of special interest to the Hispanic community, including immigration, health, education and politics. CIR’s award-winning journalists produce stories about these same issues, with a focus on stories that enable audiences to demand accountability from government, corporations and others in power. As partners, the organizations will work together on all aspects of the production process, from selection of story topics to production and editing.

“Univision News’ mission is to inform and empower our communities,” said Isaac Lee, president of Univision News. “We’ve had tremendous success with our award-winning investigative unit and are thrilled to partner with the world-renowned Center for Investigative Reporting to expand the production of our investigative news.”

CIR will work with Univision to provide access to stories and full-length documentaries with an emphasis on the U.S. West Coast and Latin America for all the Univision broadcast platforms, including its network newscast “Noticiero Univision,” and the weekly magazine program “Aqui y Ahora.” Univision News will also have access to CIR print reports for translation into Spanish.
