Changes In News Department @ KMEX-TV In Los Angeles.

Univision flagship station KMEX-TV in Los Angeles appointed Jorge Mettey as News Director, it was announced by KMEX-TV General Manager Jorge H. Delgado. He also announced the selection of Robert Yanez to the position of Director of News and Production Operations for the station.

As News Director, Mettey will supervise the department’s strategic planning, oversee the editorial content for all newscasts and supervise all news personnel, including news reporters and anchors, producers and writers. Having first joined Univision in 1996, Mettey comes to KMEX-TV after serving as the News Director for Univision station KTVW-TV in Phoenix for the last three years. Under his leadership, KTVW-TV’s news team received nine Emmys in six categories and the Governors Award from the Southwest Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 2001. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Mettey has worked in several major U.S. markets including Dallas and Los Angeles, where he has also captured the National Emmy Award for Community Service by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and a Best Newscast Emmy in 1992, respectively.

As Director of News and Production Operations, Robert Yanez returns to KMEX-TV in this newly created position to oversee the department’s news photographers, editors, assignment desk and the station’s production operations division. Prior to rejoining KMEX-TV, Yanez served as Director of News and Operations at Univision’s KUVS-TV in Sacramento for the last three years. Before that, he was News Director at Univision’s WXTV in New York/New Jersey. He first joined the company in 1995, where he served as KMEX-TV’s Assistant News Director from 1995 to 1996. Yanez comes with vast experience in both Spanish and English broadcast media, having worked in various news capacities at NBC affiliates in Texas, locally at KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV, as well as CNN.
