Chrysler Group’s Good Neighbor Helps to Further Education of Latino Students.

The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund will help further higher education among Latinos as a part of its “Good Neighbor, Good Citizen” initiative. In partnership with the National Hispanic Press Foundation, the Fund is helping to publish and distribute more than 10,000 bilingual scholarship directories throughout Southern California.

The Scholarship Directory lists thousands of avenues for Hispanic students to finance a college education, including scholarships, financial aid, loans and grants.

“This initiative enables us to further higher educational pursuits of the nation’s largest minority group and helps Latinos prepare for the challenges of an increasingly global economy,” said Frank Fountain, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and President of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. “Chrysler Group is committed to being a ‘Good Neighbor’ and enhancing educational opportunities among our customers and dealers and within the communities where we operate.”

The directories will be available in Southern California at select Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships or by calling the toll-free number, 1-877-POR-BECA (“for scholarship”). The directory, which includes an introduction by actor Edward James Olmos, features lists of Latino-focused scholarships awarded by organizations and government programs, as well as a calendar of financial aid deadlines and sections on how to access the information. The information can be obtained in booklet form or as a CD-ROM, and also is available online at http://www.scholarshipsforhispanics.org.

Among the Southern California participating Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers are: Carl Burger Chrysler Jeep, La Mesa; Casa de Gonzalez Chrysler Jeep, South Gate; Casa de Gonzalez Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Whittier; Fullerton Dodge, Fullerton; Jeep Chrysler of Ontario, Ontario; Tuttle Click Automotive Group, Irvine; Tuttle Click Automotive Group, Tustin; Valencia Chrysler Jeep, Valencia.

Chrysler Group’s “Good Neighbor” initiatives in the Hispanic community extend beyond the Hispanic Scholarship Directory. This year, the company’s West Business Center entered into a partnership with Los Angeles-based TELACU (The East Los Angeles Community Union) in a program called “Manejando el Futuro” (Driving the Future) that encompasses three areas related to financial self-sufficiency for California Latinos: college financial aid, financial planning, and small business economic development.
