Cinelatino to transmit the 2nd Annual “Fénix Film Awards”

Cinelatino has secured exclusive U.S. Spanish-language pay-TV rights to transmit The Fénix Film Awards (“Premio Iberoamericano de Cine Fénix”), for the second year in a row. Cinelatino will air the event live from the “Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris” in Mexico City on Wednesday, November 25, at 9:30pm ET / 6:30pm PT. Cinelatino will bring viewers all the excitement from the red carpet with interviews and special commentary beginning at 8:30pm ET/ 5:30pm PT.

The event will have international megastars, such as Salma Hayek, Kate del Castillo, Christian Meier, Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, Demián Bichir, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu among many others, as well as special musical performances by international sensations like Meme of Café Tacuba, Julieta Venegas, Luz Casal, and León Larregui.

The nominated films, selected from a pool of more than 1,400 feature-length films from the 22 countries of the Ibero-American region, will compete for awards in 13 categories and four special recognitions. Among this year’s nominees include award-winning titles such as:

•    Magical Girl (Spain): Golden Shell for Best Film, 62nd San Sebastian International Film Festival
•    Arabian Nights (Portugal): Entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards
•    El Abrazo de la Serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent – Colombia): CICAE Award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
•    La Isla Minima (Marshland – Spain): Best Film, 29th Goya Awards

The event was founded in 2014 by Cinema23 to celebrate the films and industry professionals of Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Seu Jorge, Jorge Drexler, Enrique Chediak, Manolo Cardona, Eugenio Zanetti, and Agustín Almodóvar are among the more than 350 film professionals from Mexico, Latin America, USA, Europe and Canada who will have an active role in the selection, nomination and voting process for the “Fénix Film Awards.”

Post-Show coverage will begin promptly after the ceremony at 11:00pm ET / 8:00pm PT, hosted by Mónica Noguera and Memo Martínez.
