Colgate-Palmolive launches ‘Make the U’ Scholarship Program.

In celebration of September’s Hispanic Heritage Month, Colgate-Palmolive proudly announces its new scholarship program entitled “Haz la U” or “Make the U.” This program, launched in partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), aims to award educational grants to eligible Hispanic students pursuing higher education.

The educational achievement gap facing Hispanic American children remains a prevalent issue. One of every three Hispanic American students fails to complete high school and only 10 percent of Hispanic Americans graduate from four-year colleges and universities(1).

“Colgate is committed to uplifting America’s youth and aims to encourage Hispanic American students with the launch of ‘Make the U,'” said David Cardona, Marketing Director, Multicultural Marketing, Colgate-Palmolive. “With the support of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, our program will promote the future success of this community by reinforcing the importance of higher education.”

From now until October 31, 2009, high school juniors and seniors can apply to Colgate’s “Make the U” scholarship program by visiting www.colgate.com/hazlau. One grand prize winner will be awarded a one-time $10,000 educational grant and 15 applicants will be honored with a one-time $1,000 educational grant. Eligible candidates will be required to submit an essay of 500 words or less that answers the question: How do you think education can impact the heritage of Hispanic generations to come? All entries must comply with the program rules and guidelines.

“We’re proud to partner with Colgate to launch ‘Make the U,’ which will provide educational assistance and encouragement to young Latinos in America,” said Jose Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO, Hispanic Heritage Foundation. “This program invites students to celebrate their Latino culture, reinforces the importance of educational advancement and empowers applicants to become the drivers of their own destiny.”
