No, Conde Nast chief S.I. Newhouse isn’t starting Spanish-language versions of Vanity Fair or GQ, but his editors at both of these two prominent Conde Nast titles have graced their very important September covers with Latinos. Vanity Fair features Jennifer Lopez and GQ features Mark Sanchez. I can’t recall the last time this happened.
Kudos to Conde Nast.
We can concoct all of the Premios shows and all of the soccer programs we want but it’s when the mainstream media, especially one as prominent as Conde Nast, puts the spotlight on Latinos when we begin to start moving mountains—and shifting attitudes. This is what young Latinos yearn for.
I have no idea what got into Conde Nast editors, but I tip my hat to them.
Full disclosure, I’ve been subscribing to both publications for a long time, and I became a fan of Vanity Fair many moons ago when I was interviewed for a profile they did of my alma mater.
We all know plenty about the Boricua from the Bronx but if you’re hungry for more pick up the September issue. And the Mexican-American quarterback from L.A. has plenty to say about his overnight celebrity status. But there’s even more!
Vanity Fair’s September issue includes an amazing photo essay of Havana’s world-famous Tropicana Club. And GQ’s September issue includes an amazing photo profile of the lovely Dominican actress Zoe Saldana.
There, in one month Conde Nast covered Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Cubans and Dominicans. Hmmm…maybe it was inspired by a joke??
Pick up your issues today and read on!
