Coors Light kicks of tournament for Mexican Soccer Team Chivas de Guadalajara.

For the first time in 10 years, Mexico’s most supported soccer team, Club Deportivo de Guadalajara S.A. de C.V. (Chivas de Guadalajara), returns to New York. As part of the Coors Light Torneo del Centenario 2006, a tournament celebrating the team’s 100-year anniversary, Chivas de Guadalajara will play the Scottish team Celtic FC on July 14 at Giants Stadium.

“It’s an honor for Coors Light to be a part of Chivas’ 100-year anniversary,” said Paul Mendieta, director of Hispanic marketing for Coors Brewing Company. “Coors Light is proud to bring this game to soccer fans in the tri-state area in advance of Chivas’ quarterfinal match in Copa Libertadores.”

Since the team’s inception in 1906, Chivas has won 10 Mexican championships. Historically, Chivas has been the Mexican club team that provides the most players to the Mexican National Team.

Celtic FC is a 40-time champion of the Scottish national league and they have won the Scottish Cup 33 times. This game will be part of Celtic FC’s pre-season preparation.
