Copa America Hits LA.

In Southern California, KMEX-TV, Channel 34 scored a major “GOAL” Wednesday evening with Univision’s live coverage of the Copa América. KMEX-TV with its broadcast of the semi-final match of Mexico vs. Uruguay was the most-watched station in Los Angeles – regardless of language – during the 5:30 to 8 p.m. time period. This is according to Nielsen Media Research’s NSI Household Overnight Ratings for July 25, 2001.

KMEX-TV’s broadcast of the game, televised live from Pereira, Colombia, posted higher ratings than every other station in the market.

The Copa América Championship Game was televised live from Bogota, Colombia on Sunday, July 29th from 2 to 5 p.m. on KMEX-TV/Univision.

This latest viewership triumph comes on the heels of Tuesday’s primetime victory for KMEX-TV. Univision’s finale of the hit summer telenovela, “Abrázame Muy Fuerte”, was the highest rated primetime program in Los Angeles, ranking even higher than KABC-TV’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” on July 24, 2001.
