Copa America @ Univision & TeleFutura.

Univision and TeleFutura television networks will air the 41st edition of the world’s longest running national teams soccer tournament “Copa America” (America’s Cup) live from Peru. One of the most watched sporting events among U.S. Hispanics, the competition’s 26 matches can be seen July 6-25 with host Fernando Fiore and play-by-play commentary by sportscasters Pablo Ramirez and Ricardo Mayorga.

Ten South American national teams, including 5-time world champion Brazil, plus special guest squads Mexico and Costa Rica, meet to vie for the most hotly contested soccer trophy in the Americas. Featuring top players from throughout the continent, the competition starts with round-robin group play and 2 matches per day from July 6-14. The top two teams in each group plus the two best 3rd place squads advance to the “Copa’s” quarterfinals that take place July 17-18. This knockout phase ends with the final match on Sunday, July 25, which will air exclusively on the Univision Network live at 3:30pm (2:30pm Central).

The winner of this top-rated tournament represents CONMEBOL (South American Soccer Confederation) in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany next June 2005, another Univision Sports blockbuster event.

The tournament is expected to include the following all-star players: the game’s hottest shot blocker and Mexican team captain Oswaldo Sanchez; Argentina’s lethal goal scorer, striker Javier Saviola; Brazilian and club team Arsenal stand out midfielder, Eduardo Cesar Daud Gaspar, better known as “Edu”; Brazilian and club team Manchester United forward and World Cup veteran Jose “Kleberson” Pereira; and also from Manchester United, Uruguayan striker and lethal goal scorer, Diego Forlan.
