Copa Makita Soccer Tournament.

Makita has long offered solutions for professional contractors on jobsites across the US with its line of high quality power tools and accessories. Now the company is taking the field with Copa Makita, a two-day soccer tournament and fiesta in Dallas featuring teams of local contractors competing for prizes and a chance to have their team’s name etched on the Copa Makita Cup. The event took place on October 6 and 7, 2007, at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster near Dallas.

Local contractors, including painters, framers, drywallers and masons, will form teams and compete in the two-day competition. Two teams will advance to the tournament final on October 11 at Pizza Hut Park, home of Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas.

The two-day tournament will be punctuated by a Fiesta Makita, an array of attractions featuring food, music, merchandise, games, and more.

“We meet pro tradesman on jobsites and at MLS matches across the country,” said Ken Hefley, vice president of marketing for Makita. “There are plenty of tool-using contractors who are also serious soccer players on the weekends. Copa Makita gives these tool-using pro’s a chance to take the field in a tournament-style competition against their peers.”

“With our sponsorship of soccer, we use the excitement and energy of the sport as a meaningful way to connect with professional tool users,” said Hefley. “Makita’s sponsorship of Major League Soccer takes our participation in the sport to the national level, while our Copa Makita tournament lets us engage contractors at the local level.”
