Fox Sports en Español announced the return of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana to its Fall line-up of exclusive live soccer action. Live tournament play kicks-off on Fox Sports en Español on Tuesday, August 22 with three first-round encounters featuring teams from Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, starting with a match between Ecuadorian selections LDU Quito and El Nacional at 3:30 PM ET/12:30 PM PT. The 2006 Copa Nissan Sudamericana marks the second time ever that CONCACAF member teams from Mexico will take part in the five-month, 66-match tournament, and the first ever appearance by Mexico’s Toluca and Pachuca.

“The Copa Nissan Sudamericana continues to be one of soccer’s premier international club tournaments,” said David Sternberg, executive vice president and general manager of Fox Sports en Español. “We anticipate that the addition of Mexico’s Toluca and Pachuca to the field will score big among our viewers and further bolster the popularity of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, particularly among Mexican soccer fans, who make up the majority of the U.S. Spanish-language television viewing audience. We’re excited to be the only network in the nation to offer live action from this prestigious tournament.”

A CONMEBOL-sanctioned tournament, the 2006 Copa Nissan Sudamericana features 34 teams from 12 countries, including 31 teams from CONMEBOL member countries and 3 from CONCACAF, including Brazil (8); Argentina (7); Mexico (2); Bolivia (2); Chile (2); Colombia (2); Ecuador (2); Peru (2); Paraguay (2); Uruguay (2); Venezuela (2); and Costa Rica (1).
