Copa Properties Deliver Highest Ratings For Fox Sports en Español.

Soccer on Fox Sports en Español proved to be the big winner in Spanish-language cable television in January, according to Nielsen Media Research. The 14 qualifying games of the InterLiga competition, a new tournament that determines the first of two automatic berths for Mexican clubs to the prestigious Copa Toyota Libertadores, delivered an average household coverage rating of 5.5 for Fox Sports en Español. Two additional qualifying games to select the second Mexican club spiked to average household coverage ratings of 8.38 on January 21 and 8.64 on January 28, delivering the highest
primetime ratings ever for the nation’s first and largest Spanish-language sports network.

Fox Sports en Español kicked off the year with four back-to-back live telecasts of the InterLiga competition on January 4. For 10 consecutive hours, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time, the four games averaged a solid 4.5 household coverage rating on the network. From then on, Fox Sports en Español maintained an impressive streak of household coverage ratings for its live telecasts from sold-out venues in several top U.S. Hispanic markets like Los Angeles and Houston.

“In just one month, we premiered a new event that added 32 hours of live, fresh programming, and shattered our ratings estimates,” said Tom Maney, Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales for Fox Sports en Español. “For three of the first five weeks of 2004, we delivered the highest national prime time ratings in all of cable television, according to Nielsen Media Research. As we move into February, we anticipate continued momentum with the launch of Diario Fox Sports, our new sports newscast from Mexico, and the much-anticipated return of the Copa Toyota Libertadores.”
