Copa Toyota Libertadores Is A Ratings Winner @ Fox Sports en Español.

Fox Sports en Español’s coverage of the 2003 Copa Toyota Libertadores, Latin America’s most prestigious annual club soccer tournament, has proven to be a ratings winner for the network. The two final games of the competition between Santos of Brazil and Boca Juniors of Argentina generated a 5.7 Hispanic household rating and a 4.7 coverage rating among Hispanic men 18 to 49 according to Nielsen Media Research, surpassing the network’s own ratings projections.

Beginning in February, the first round of 96 games delivered a solid 1.7 household rating average and a 1.2 coverage rating among men 18 to 49. The first round was highlighted by the exceptional delivery of the Pumas (Mexico) vs. Bolivar (Bolivia) match, which produced a 6.7 household rating and a 5.7 among men 18 to 49.

Ratings surged again as the tournament moved into its second phase of 16 games , showing increases of 59% to a 2.7 household number and 50% for men 18 to 49, to a 1.8. The second round was highlighted by the Cruz Azul (Mexico) vs. Deportivo Cali (Colombia) match on May 6, which delivered a 7.3 household rating and 6.3 men 18-49 number.

The tournament continued building momentum as it entered the quarterfinals phase with ratings growing another 52% on households, to a 4.0, and 94% against men 18-49 to a 3.5.

The network retains the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights to the popular six-month tournament, including all playoffs and finals, through 2007.
