September 16, 2006
The official guide to the 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards – and to “NYC Celebrates in Latin Style,” – a weeklong, citywide celebration leading up to the live show – will appear in English in the Daily News’ VIVA NEW YORK pullout section on Wednesday, October 25, and in Spanish in Hora Hispana on Thursday, October 26.
The 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, the premier international showcase of excellence in Latin music, will be held at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, November 2, culminating a week of music, food, sports and fashion events in all five boroughs, organized and led by NYC Big Events.
Expanded editorial coverage will give all Daily News and Hora Hispana readers an exclusive, insider’s view of the Latin GRAMMY’s. Some lucky readers will get even closer to the excitement, as the Daily News presents an exclusive sweepstakes to win the ultimate insider’s experience of “Latin Music’s Biggest Night.” Fantastic prizes include VIP tickets, a backstage tour during rehearsal, and the same swag-filled gift bags that the stars will receive at the official after-party. (Details, rules of the sweepstakes, and entry forms will appear in the Daily News, Viva New York and Hora Hispana beginning the week of October 22.)
“We’re proud to provide the official guide,” said Martin Dunn, deputy publisher and editor-in-chief of the Daily News. “Our readers will enjoy coverage of the nominees, the legends, and the up-and-coming stars. This special edition will give our English-language and Spanish-language readers the Hispanic celebrity news they expect from New York’s #1 newspaper.”
Special coverage will preview the awards show, highlight Latin GRAMMY® street parties and related events all around New York City, and provide the inside scoop on the hottest musical acts in Latin pop, salsa, merengue, ranchera, rock, reggaetón, and more. Featured interviews will include Colombian bombshell Shakira, who topped all artists with five Latin GRAMMY® nominations, and Puerto Rican reggaetón duo Calle 13, newcomers who earned three nominations. Readers also will find engaging profiles of Latin music legends, from Cuban rumbera Graciela to superstar and 2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Ricky Martin.
The October 25 Latin GRAMMY special edition will mark the re-launch of VIVA NEW YORK. Formerly a bilingual, part-run insert, the Latino lifestyle and entertainment section will appear monthly in the Daily News, entirely in English, throughout the New York metropolitan area – reaching 2.7 million readers including 440,300 Hispanic readers. The Daily News and its partners – the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc., NYC Big Events, and Univision, which will broadcast the awards show live on November 2nd at 8 p.m. on Univision 41 in New York – will distribute thousands of extra copies on November 2. Through Hora Hispana, the Latin GRAMMY® section will reach an additional 250,000 Spanish-speaking households in selected, predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods around New York and northern New Jersey.
“As the Latin GRAMMYs official print partners, the Daily News and Hora Hispana can offer our advertisers a truly unique opportunity to be part of the glamour and excitement of the event,” said Guy “Doc” Holliday, associate publisher of the Daily News. “There’s simply no better place to showcase their brands and connect with New Yorkers than in this special edition of VIVA NEW YORK.”
