Daisy Expósito-Ulla Receives Carvel Immigrant Entrepreneur Award.
May 7, 2004
Daisy Expósito-Ulla, Chairman and CEO of The Bravo Group, received the prestigious Carvel Immigrant Entrepreneur Award from The National Immigration Forum at their Fifth Annual Keepers of The American Dream Awards Dinner on May 19, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
The Forum’s annual Keepers of the American Dream Awards Dinner is a celebration of the heroes who embrace the spirit of immigrant achievement and the American Dream, who contribute significantly to the well being of immigrants in America, and who enhance the appreciation of immigrants and America’s immigrant tradition.
The Carvel Immigrant Entrepreneur Award was launched to honor outstanding immigrant entrepreneurs whose success embodies the American Dream. The Carvel Foundation, funded through the generosity of the late Tom Carvel, has supported this award since its inception. Mr. Carvel, himself a Greek immigrant, started a chain of ice cream parlors that was one of the first franchises to be open to immigrant ownership, and which paved the way for hundreds of new arrivals to establish their own businesses and find
success.
In her acceptance speech, Ms. Expósito-Ulla said “As a marketing and advertising professional I could think of America as a brand. A brand that has differentiated itself for providing opportunity, freedom and openness to immigrants…Without immigrants this nation won’t be able to achieve the greatness it deserves in the future. For greatness is made of diversity. That is the essence of this country. America must be the brand that stands for hope.”
