Delgado – President & GM @ KMEX-TV & TeleFutura KFTR-TV In Los Angeles.

Univision Communications Inc. announced that Jorge Delgado will assume the role of President and General Manager of the Univision Network’s flagship station, KMEX-TV, Los Angeles, and the new TeleFutura Network station, KFTR-TV, Los Angeles, effective immediately.

Delgado was previously President of the TeleFutura Station Group, a position he held from April 2001 until the successful launch of the TeleFutura Network in January. He will remain based in Los Angeles and will continue to report to Michael D. Wortsman and Tom Arnost, Co-Presidents, Univision Television Group. The position of President, TeleFutura Station Group, has been dissolved.

Former KMEX-TV General Manager, Augustine Martinez, has been named Eastern Regional Vice President, Univision Station Group, effective immediately. In this new capacity, Martinez will serve as General Manager of the Philadelphia Univision Network and TeleFutura Network stations, WUVP-TV and WFPA-CA, as well as General Manager of the Cleveland Univision Network station, WQHS-TV. Martinez will also oversee the General Managers of the Univision Communications-owned TeleFutura Network stations in Washington, D.C. (WFDC-TV), Tampa (WFTT-TV), Orlando (WOTF-TV) and Boston (WUTF-TV). In these four markets, Entravision Communications will be responsible for sales and marketing for the TeleFutura Network stations as well as for the Univision Network stations that Entravision currently owns in those cities. Martinez will be based in Philadelphia and will also report to Wortsman and Arnost.

“We are delighted that Jorge is returning to Univision Network’s flagship station and our new Los Angeles TeleFutura station in his new position as President and General Manager,” said Wortsman. “Given the importance and competitiveness of the market, Jorge’s industry expertise and leadership skills will be extremely valuable. Jorge has done a tremendous job in preparing the TeleFutura stations for their debut, as evidenced by the fact that in just one month on the air, TeleFutura reaches more than 70% of the U.S. Hispanic population. We have great confidence in his ability to lead KMEX and KFTR to even greater success going forward.”

“I am very excited to return to KMEX, a station which has consistently outperformed all other Spanish and English-language stations in the LA market, and where I started my career with Univision nine years ago,” said Delgado. “Working to build the station group for Univision’s TeleFutura Network during the last several months has been extremely rewarding, and I welcome the opportunity to lead Univision Network’s flagship station and new Los Angeles TeleFutura station.”

Commenting on Martinez’s appointment, Wortsman said: “Augie’s move to Eastern Regional Vice President is an important step for Univision’s Station Group. Augie has been with Univision for 8 years and played an integral role in building KMEX’s position as the leading Spanish-language station in the #1 U.S. Hispanic market. His expertise will prove invaluable as he guides several new Univision and TeleFutura stations to becoming leading Spanish-language stations in their respective markets.”

“I am proud to be given the opportunity to lead the Univision and TeleFutura Networks’ entry into these important markets,” said Martinez. “This position represents a tremendous opportunity to better serve the informational and entertainment needs of the Hispanic community in these areas, which have experienced explosive growth during the past ten years. Univision Communications’ ability to simultaneously establish new stations in numerous markets is a testament to the growing demand for top-quality Spanish-language programming and the exciting times that lie ahead for Spanish-language media.”

Prior to his role as President of the TeleFutura Station Group, Delgado served as General Manager of KUVS-TV, Univision’s Sacramento, California station. In May of 1995, Delgado was named General Manager of KLUZ-TV, the Univision station in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Delgado started his career with Univision Communications Inc. in 1993 in KMEX-TV’s Management Trainee program. Delgado earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Florida Institute of Technology, a Masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Stanford University.

Prior to becoming Eastern Regional Vice President, Univision Station Group, Martinez served as General Manager of KMEX-TV for 8 years. Prior to that, he served as Vice President and Station Manager of KVEA-TV, Los Angeles. Before joining KVEA-TV, Martinez was Vice President of Finance and Administration for KTTV-TV, the FOX owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles. Martinez has also held various financial and sales positions for CBS Television stations in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
