Dessert Mountain Media ‘Latin Cinema Collection’.

Desert Mountain Media announced the creation of an exciting new label that specially targets the fastest growing demographic within the U.S. The “Latin Cinema Collection” features internationally-acclaimed, award-winning films, both classic and contemporary. The company has gone the extra mile in restoring these films through digital restorations from the original film negatives. Over the next six months, Desert Mountain Media will release films from classic Latino directors including Alfonso Arau (“Like Water For Chocolate,” “Calzonzin Inspector”), Arturo Ripstein (“Principio y Fin,” “El Imperio de la Fortuna”), Felipe Cazals (“Canoa”) and Carlos Carrera (“La Mujer de Benjamin,” “La Vida Conyugal”).

“We’ve taken great care to not only restore these Spanish language gems but to also preserve the films,” commented Leslie Haas, President of Desert Mountain Media. “Our goal is to offer quality films in their original language for superior audio and video home entertainment. We’ve worked on this collection for over a year and we now feel that the timing is perfect to offer these films to the public.”

“I was extremely pleased with the quality of the new collection of Spanish-language films from Desert Mountain Media,” commented Alejandro Pelayo Rangel, Consul for Cultural Affairs to Mexico. “The Latin Cinema Collection offers some of the best films from Mexico and I know that Mexican film fans will be excited to be able to watch these great films at home.”

The first three films in the Latin Cinema Collection include “Cilantro Y Perejil,” “El Imperio de la Fortuna” and “Angel De Fuego.” All are being offered in the original Spanish language with English subtitles with Bilingual packaging and DVD menus.

“Cilantro Y Perejil” is the winner of nine Ariel Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Story.

“El Imperio de la Fortuna” is from internationally-acclaimed director Arturo Ripstein and is the winner of eight Ariel Awards including Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Actor and Best Original Story. It is also the winner of the San Sebastian International Film Festival Award for Best Actor.

Winner of the 1993 International Critic’s Award for Best Picture at the International Latino Film Festival and an official selection for Director’s Fortnight in Cannes 1992, “Angel de Fuego” was deemed “one of the top 100 Mexican Films of all time” according to Somos.
