Discovery Channel LatAM & Iberia Awarded World Medals.

Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia was awarded Gold and Bronze WorldMedals in addition to finalist certificates by the New York Festivals 43rd Annual International Television Programming & Promotion Awards, the only worldwide competition that honors excellence in communications media.

Discovery Channel’s Paranal: Eye on the Universe, an original production about the creation of the greatest scientific building complex of the 21st century where, through the use of powerful telescopes, man will be able to see an astronaut on the moon, garnered the prestigious Gold WorldMedal in the category Distance Learning/Science. This program was a co-production overseen by executive producer Luis Perez-Tolon in association with Rey Telles of Raymond Telles Productions with the collaboration of Nueva Imagen, Chile.

Manuela Sáenz: La Pasión de Bolívar, a documentary that profiles the life of the woman who conquered Bolivar, was awarded the Bronze WorldMedal in the History category. This program was a co-production overseen by executive producer Michela Giorelli in association with Televideo and the collaboration of Mauricio Vélez-Domínguez.

Other recognitions included finalist certificates for People+Arts’ Casas: Casa Holtz in the Fine Arts/Crafts category, and Discovery Kids’ Mercurio in the Special Talk/Interview category. Overall, Discovery Networks, U.S., and Discovery Networks, International received a total of 20 WorldMedals and 15 Finalist Certificates at the 2001 New York Festivals.
