Discovery en Español celebrates with ‘5 DE MAYO: UN DIA DE GLORIA’.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, Discovery en Español will premiere its original production “5 de mayo: un dia de gloria” on Sunday, April 29 at 10 PM ET/ PT. The docudrama, explores the historical events of this epic battle, a symbol of the triumphal resistance of the Mexican people over the French army.
The documentary, directed by Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Tort, winner of 11 Mexican Academy of Film “Ariel” Awards, retells the story of one of the most decisive moments in Mexican history, combining faithful reenactments and the testimony of renowned researchers and historians. “5 de mayo: un dia de gloria” was filmed at different locations in Puebla, such as the historic Hacienda Micuautla, Fuerte Guadalupe, and the Museo del Alfeñique, perfect settings to recreate the events of that fateful day on May the 5th.

The celebration of the 150th anniversary served as the perfect occasion for developing this landmark original production, which, told through a current point of view, brings to life a proud moment in history for Mexicans and Latin America as a whole,” said Michela Giorelli, Vice President of Production and Development for Discovery en Español.
Shot in high definition and with a large cast of actors and extras, this production counted with the support of the State of Puebla through TV de Puebla and the Ministry of National Defense’s Department of Archives and History.
“5 de mayo: un dia de gloria” is an original production by Discovery en Español under the direction of Michela Giorelli, Rafael Rodriguez and Irune Ariztoy. It was produced by Cactus Films and directed by Gerardo Tort.
