Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group announced its new programming slate for Discovery en Español. In addition to global content from Discovery Networks, more than 100 hours of original programming will be created for Spanish-speaking audiences to premiere during the 2007-2008 broadcast season.

“This year, we are deepening our commitment to Hispanic audiences by increasing our investment in Spanish language original productions that showcase fascinating and inspiring stories from Latin America and the United States,” said Luis Silberwasser, senior vice president and general manager, Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group. “Our winning strategy is bearing fruit in strong ratings gains, and we remain focused on bringing together original programming with the best global content from Discovery to deliver the most relevant and highest quality entertainment available to U.S. Hispanic audiences.”

Building on the strong ratings performance and critical acclaim of OBJETIVO: EL NORTE last year, a documentary that examined both sides of the immigration debate, Discovery en Español will premiere VIVIENDO EN LAS SOMBRAS, a thought-provoking new documentary that chronicles the life and challenges of illegal immigrants living in the United States today.

MARAS SIN FRONTERAS is a gut-wrenching look at the methods, members and leaders of the modern Maras gangs. Visit the streets and prisons where the Maras grew stronger and meet the specialized police force that combats this criminal phenomenon at its peak. Witness how it has impacted the lives of countless young men in the region, from El Salvador to Los Angeles.

COLLISION OVER THE AMAZON offers a detailed investigation into the worst air accident in South American history.

PROYECTO MALVINAS is a hypothetical “what-if” look at what might have happened if Argentina had defeated the United Kingdom in the Falkland Islands war.

In addition to the original programming that will premiere during the broadcast season, each network will air some of the best global content from Discovery that has been customized and transcreated for Spanish-speaking viewers. DISCOVERY ATLAS, which brings viewers into the heart of some of the world’s most breathtaking and fascinating countries, continues this year with an exploration of India, South Africa, and Mexico. DISCOVERY ATLAS: MEXICO REVEALED will feature stunning views of Mexico, from the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza to the ancestral Mexico City.
