Dominguez named SVP of Art and Design at Univision
December 17, 2015
Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) announced the promotion of Jorge Dominguez to senior vice president of Art and Design. Dominguez will remain based in Miami and continue to report to Jessica Rodriguez, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of UCI.
Dominguez’s leadership style fosters creativity while striving for innovation and excellence; for three decades he has been essential in the evolution of art design for UCI, developing award-winning sets and graphics for the majority of the UCI-produced shows across entertainment, news and sports, as well as digital products and Univision’s music tentpoles, such as Premios Juventud, Latin GRAMMY’s and Premio Lo Nuestro, for which he developed the very first logo and design when it launched 27 years ago. This year alone, Dominguez led the design of new sets for highly-acclaimed shows like Despierta América –Hispanic America’s No. 1 morning show– the Emmy-winning, El Gordo y la Flaca (The Scoop and the Skinny) and Sunday’s celebrity news and gossip source, Sal y Pimienta (Salt and Pepper). He was behind the redesign of the Univision Noticias brand as well as the Destino 2016 election brand platform. Ahead of the 10th season premiere of Univision Network’s beauty reality show, Nuestra Belleza Latina, Dominguez reimagined new graphics and a set design to be unveiled in 2016.
“With talent that goes beyond the television screen, Jorge has been essential in the transformation of our sets and evolution of graphic design for major UCI properties and initiatives,” said Rodriguez. “His leadership style is unparalleled as is his artistic contribution and strategic application of his ideas. We look forward to seeing his original and awe-inspiring efforts further elevate the Univision brand.”
Dominguez has been part of UCI for nearly 30 years. He most recently served as vice president of Art Design and before that as creative director of On-Air. In 1990, he was involved in the creation of Univision’s original logo and became an important asset in the conception and rollout of the logo’s 2013 redesign. Leading a team of more than 50 designers, Dominguez has been vital to the development and execution of Univision Deportes Network and UniMás Network, in addition to being at the forefront of set, graphic design and art direction for each Upfront presentation the Company has hosted. With his team, Dominguez has also been central to the brand creation of digital products, Univision Novelas App and Univision Conecta. Prior to joining UCI, Dominguez served as a freelance art director with Turner Sports, supporting the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has also held art director and senior designer positions at local Miami television stations. His outstanding artistry has earned him 12 Emmy awards, four BDA Gold awards, six BDA Silver awards, nine BDA Bronze awards and a Telly Silver award.
