EestrellaTV’s WGEN-TV in Miami expands News Coverage

EstrellaTV’s Miami station WGEN-TV, Estrella 8, is shifting its daytime programming schedule beginning Monday, September 4. WGEN Miami and Estrella News will ramp up daytime news coverage to meet viewer demand heading into a year of historic political drama in the U.S. and much of the world.

Beginning at 11 a.m. ET with Buenas Noticias, anchored by Cuban-born journalist Abel Alvarez, WGEN-TV will feature some of EstrellaTV’s signature news series, including 24 Horas and En Vivoduring the day, and will anchor its primetime with the newly expanded one‑hour editions of national news broadcast Cierre Edicion at 9 p.m. and Alarma TV at 10 p.m.

In addition, WGEN-TV’s local news broadcast, Noticias 8 Miami serving the South Florida community, introduced esteemed Cuban journalist and commentator Ricardo Brown as its weekly political analyst. Brown has over 30 years of experience collaborating with prominent news media outlets in both Spanish language and general market.

“We believe these programming changes will more effectively serve our Miami audience, especially those seeking Spanish-language news-focused content,” said Nicolas Valls, Regional General Manager WGEN Miami, Estrella Media. “Embracing the diversity of cultures and heritage from Latin America and the Caribbean is central to who we are; our South Florida viewers deserve the best news and information, and Estrella Media is up to the challenge. Starting with the uplifting news show ‘Buenas Noticias,’ and ending with the impactful ‘Cierre de Edición’ and ‘Alarma TV,’ our new programming lineup will bring the news stories and breaking news coverage from the U.S. and Latin America that our viewers prefer. With 2024 shaping up to be a politically turbulent year, and with key Florida-based candidates and political developments in Latin America impacting our South Florida community, WGEN Estrella 8 Miami will be serving this information need beginning September 4.”
