Vantage Residential and Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) announce El Escaparate: A Storefront Art Show by Latinos Uptown – an official event of the Latin Media and Entertainment Week.
Opening Reception: Tuesday, October 5, 2010 / 6 – 8pm / 3855 Broadway (@ 161st Street)
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and to promote Latino arts and cultures uptown, three vacant storefront locations will be converted into art showcases featuring the work of nine local Latino artists.
Pedestrians will have a chance to view the artwork in the windows at all times of the day at 3495 Broadway (143rd Street), 4101 Broadway (173rd Street) and 3855 Broadway (161st Street). In addition, the interior of the 3855 Broadway space will be open to the public as a mini-gallery for the opening and closing receptions.
“We believe supporting our local communities is a critical element of the Vantage mission, and this is an example of how we’re constantly looking for innovative ways to improve neighborhoods,” said Neil Rubler, CEO, Vantage Residential.
“This concept will make some truly impressive art seen every day by local residents. I’m thrilled that Vantage was able to partner with such a progressive, community-oriented company like the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance in order to play this meaningful role during Latin Media and Entertainment Week,” said Raquel Batista, Vice President, Corporate Responsibility and Compliance, Vantage Residential.
“We at NoMAA are much excited about El Escaparate, a storefront exhibit with the participation of excellent Latino artists, and the opportunity to partner with Vantage in the spirit of promoting the arts uptown during Hispanic Heritage Month. The use of empty storefronts in our community to promote the work of our artists is something that many were asking for…and it is happening now. We are delighted!” said Sandra A. Garcia-Betancourt, Executive Director & CEO, Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA).
Featured artists include: Carlos Almonte, Rene De los Santos, Pepe Coronado, Iliana Emilia Garcia, Scherezade Gelabert, Dionis Ortiz, M. Tony Peralta, Favianna Rodriguez and Moses Ros-Suarez. The curators for the exhibits are Rocio Aranda-Alvarado and El Museo del Barrio.
“My art work is a true representation of people who are making history by being courageous in their fight for social justice. I believe that art can serve as a manifestation of a better world, and so I’m excited Vantage and NoMAA are helping to share my work and practice with the community in New York,” said Faviana Rodriguez, featured artist.
