El grito que sacudió a México on Discovery en Español.
August 2, 2010
In homage of Mexico’s 200 years of independence, this year Discovery en Español celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the premiere of the historical docudrama. Airing on Thursday, September 16th at 9 PM ET/PT, this original production, directed by award winning Mexican filmmaker Carlos Bolado, examines the events between September of 1810 and July of 1811 that gave rise to liberty.
The special reconstructs a fundamental moment in history by combining testimony from renowned historians with scenes that recreate pivotal events such as “El Grito de Dolores”, the bloody siege of the “Alhóndiga de Granaditas” in Guanajuato, and the epic battle of the “Monte de las Cruces”. Shot on location in Querétaro, Guanajuato, the State of Mexico, and the Federal District, El grito que sacudió a México, focuses on these events’ two main protagonists: Miguel Hidalgo a priest and Ignacio Allende a military leader.
“At Discovery en Español we celebrate our Hispanic roots throughout the year with programs that resonate and are of interest to Hispanics. This Hispanic Heritage Month we are proud to commemorate 200 years of Mexican independence with the premiere of this historic production under the direction of the prestigious filmmaker Carlos Bolado. Using powerful images and dramatizations, the documentary revisits the first years of the Independence process and showcases the indomitable human spirit of the Mexican people”, said Michela Giorelli, Vice-president of Production and Development for Discovery en Español.
Beyond the premiere of El grito que sacudió a México, the network is also conducting a number of other initiatives. Among these is a series of capsules entitled “Así se festeja el bicentenario de México en… nombre de la ciudad” (“This is how we celebrate Mexico’s Bicentennial in … name the city)”, in which Discovery en Español cameras will capture some of the most colorful bicentennial celebrations in various communities in the U.S. and air them throughout Hispanic Heritage Month.
Finally, starting on September 13th the network will kickoff of a weeklong tribute to Mexico with a slate of special programming dedicated to highlighting the traditions, culture, and beauty of this rich nation. Among these:
