Spanish Broadcasting Systems (SBS) announced that its evening radio show “El Jukeo” of WSKQ Mega 97.9 FM in New York, is promoting a new contest called “A Qué Hora Pasó.”
The contest began May 21st and will last until June 14th. During these weeks, listeners will get the chance to call the studio during “El Jukeo.”. The show’s host, Joel “El Intruso” Santiago, will answer calls at random, and ask participants to identify a sound byte that was played earlier on the show along with the time it aired. The sound byte will be changed daily and aired various times throughout each show. The audience will have the opportunity to win tickets to concerts, sporting events, gift certificates and cash.
“El Jukeo” derives its name from an invented word in Puerto Rican slang which means “to get hooked.” The term “jukéate” or “get hooked” illustrates the program’s ability to attract a large audience based on its programming which is a unique combination of music and entertainment.
“El Jukeo,” which airs Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, has gained a loyal audience, largely through a loyal following of the new hosts of the show. As a result, Mega 97.9 FM recently announced that “El Jukeo” receives higher ratings than any of its other programs.
The two new hosts for “El Jukeo,” Joel Santiago and Epi Colon, have great track records of success. Joel used to work at La Mega 106.9 FM in Puerto Rico, the sister station for La Mega 97.9 FM. In addition, he also worked for an English music radio station.
“Joel was born and raised in New York. He knows the New York market,” said Jackie Torres, Director of Marketing and Promotions for Mega 97.9 FM. “Epi also has an impressive background and worked for La Mega for two years before joining “El Jukeo.” After those two years, he returned to Puerto Rico, but came back to La Mega for a chance to work with Joel. These two bright radio personalities have an incredible chemistry that allows them to work well together and attract a great audience.”
