Entenmann’s Effort – Por Un Barrio Mejor.
August 13, 2004
Stick ball, ringoleavio, skully, kick the can—these and other traditional street games will be centerpiece events at the Back to The Schoolyard Games presented on Wednesday, September 22 by Entenmann’s For A Better Neighborhood/Por Un Barrio Mejor(TM), a community initiative sponsored by the makers of Entenmann’s brand of baked goods.
The Back to the School Yard Games celebrate the start of the new school year and will kick-off a full slate of 2004 programs citywide created by Entenmann’s “For A Better Neighborhood” to encourage parents to get involved with their child’s education. All programs are in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education in support of “P.S., It’s All About the Kids.”
“Reaching out to parents on behalf of our schools is very much in keeping with Entenmann’s focus on making the neighborhoods we serve better places to live, work and play,” says Steve Zamichow, Vice-President of Marketing for Entenmann’s. “Better students make better citizens and better citizens make better neighborhoods. Parents play an essential role in a child’s academic success, and we are proud to be working with the New York City Department of Education to advance parent involvement.”
Entenmann’s launched For A Better Neighborhood in 2003, underscoring the company’s commitment to the communities it serves. “We have been a part of New York City for over a century,” adds Mr. Zamichow, “and regard our children as an important investment in the future.”
Last year, For A Better Neighborhood partnered with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to fund maintenance of swing sets in 100 community parks.
The 2004 Back to the School Yard Games are scheduled to be held at P.S. 115, Daniel Mucatel School, 1500 East 92nd Street, Brooklyn NY 11236. For A Better Neighborhood invites all New York City school alumni—especially stickball homerun kings or jump rope divas–to participate as coaches, players, team captains, scorekeepers and cheerleaders.
