Escobar – Executive VP Programming & Production @ Telemundo.

Ramon Escobar, Telemundo’s Station Group’s Senior Vice President of Local News, Creative Services and Local Programming since NBC’s acquisition of the network, has been named Executive Vice President of Programming and Production for Telemundo Network. The announcement was made by Telemundo President and CEO, James McNamara.

“We are so excited to promote Ramon. His passion for delivering excellent programming and his track record of success at GE, NBC, and Telemundo make him the right leader for this position,” said McNamara. He added, “His experience brings knowledge of our audience, a long-standing passion for producing creative TV programming, and process rigor to our team.”

Escobar, who started his career in the Hispanic market, served as Senior Vice President of News, Creative Services and Local Programming for Telemundo Television Stations since June 2002. In this role, Escobar oversaw all local news operations and promotions at Telemundo’s 15 owned and operated stations. Prior to this position, Escobar led the local news integration effort during NBC’s purchase of Telemundo.

He has worked at NBC for 9 years, where he served as Vice President of News Programming at MSNBC, responsible for all live news programming at NBC’s 24 hour cable news channel. He was Vice President and News Director of NBC’s owned and operated station in Miami, WTVJ/NBC 6 from 1997 to 2000. He began his NBC career there as Executive Producer of Special Projects in 1994 and then Managing Editor in 1996.

Escobar got his start on Spanish Television as a Sports Producer at WXTV/Channel 41 Univision’s owned and operated station in New York in 1991. He went on to produce the late news at channel 41. He then became Executive Producer of WNJU/Channel 47; Telemundo’s owned and operated station in New York in 1993.
