In January 2004, ESPN launched ESPN Deportes, a new 24-hour, Spanish-language sports network serving the U.S. Hispanic sports fan.
ESPN Deportes telecasts a wide variety of domestic and international sports programming including Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NFL, UEFA Champions League, Major League Soccer, Wimbledon, the French Open, IRL Indy Car Series, and more. ESPN Deportes also televises X Games events, including the summer and Winter X Games and the Latin American X Games.
ESPN Deportes also showcases a selection of Spanish-language sports news and information shows, including a separately produced version of SportsCenter. Other featured programs include: Fuera de Juego, a round table discussion of the world of soccer; and Perfiles, a half-hour interview show which takes a revealing look at Latin American sports stars.
LIVE SPORTS
NBA: More than 70 regular season games, as well as exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the playoffs through to the Conference Finals.
NFL: Exclusive Spanish-language coverage of Sunday Night Football and the Pro Bowl, with a weekly report (NFL Semanal).
MLB: Exclusive, national Spanish-language coverage of more than 70 Major League Baseball games, including Sunday Night Baseball, as well as Wednesday night doubleheaders, a number of holiday games, and the Home Run Derby.
Boxing: Bone-crushing bouts featuring major Latin contenders.
UEFA Champions League: The best of European club team competition featuring 64 exclusive matches.
Tennis: Top tournaments including Grand Slam action from Wimbledon and the French Open, as well as coverage of the Tennis Masters Series.
PGA Tour: The top players battling it out on the most prestigious golf tour in the world.
Liga Mexicana del Pacífico: Mexico’s prestigios winter baseball league.
X Games: the world’s leading action sports competition, featuring the summer X Games, Winter X Games, and the Latin American X Games.

SportsCenter on ESPN Deportes: A completely new version of SportsCenter, all in Spanish, tailored to the interests of the U.S. Hispanic sports fan.
Fuera de Juego: Soccer roundtable program, twice weekly.
NFL Semanal: Studio program with highlights, analysis, features, and predictions.
ESPN Perfiles: An in-depth look into the lives of Latin American sports stars.
RPM Semanal: Motor sports program with highlights, interviews, and insider news with emphasis on Latino drivers.
Fútbol Picante: 30-minute series with Mexican soccer legend Carlos Hermosillo, featuring results, debates, predictions, analysis, and interviews from the world of Mexican soccer.

In conjunction with telecasts on ESPN Deportes, the company’s Spanish-language website, ESPNdeportes.com, offers comprehensive sports news and information. Highlights include real-time scores and statistics, game re-caps and box scores, pre-game and post-game analysis of ESPN Deportes telecasts, and interactive chat sessions hosted by ESPN Deportes commentators.
NEW INITIATIVES
ESPN DEPORTES RADIO – Breve de SportsCenter
The ESPN Deportes brand was extended in 2003 to include ESPN Deportes Radio, which launched with exclusive Spanish-language broadcasts of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, League Championship Series, and World Series. On May 18, 2004, ESPN Deportes Radio launched a twice-daily, two-minute SportsCenter update entitled Breve de SportsCenter, featuring scores and commentary. ESPN Deportes Radio has an exclusive distribution agreement with Univision Radio and a partnership with ABC Radio Networks. ESPN Deportes Radio affiliates currently cover 74% of the U.S. Hispanic population, including 9 of the top 10, and 16 of the top 20 Hispanic markets.
ESPN DEPORTES WIRELESS
ESPN Deportes has teamed up with Verizon and Sprint to offer subscribers images of their favorite Latino sports stars, including heroes from Argentine Soccer, Spanish Soccer, Mexican Soccer, UEFA Champions League, Major League Baseball, and the NBA. In the upcoming months, Verizon and Sprint subscribers will be able to receive Spanish-language sports alerts to any text message enabled phone. Users will be able to sign up on ESPNdeportes.com and customize their alert to reflect their favorite team, sport and even player.
NETWORK AVAILABILITY
Since launching on January 7, ESPN Deportes has secured distribution agreements with six of the ten largest cable operators in the U.S., including Adelphia, Charter, Cox, Insight, Cable One, and with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC). ESPN Deportes affiliates serve many of the largest U.S. Hispanic markets including Los Angeles, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Phoenix, Denver, and San Diego.
