ESPN Deportes ‘Fútbol a Football’ Promotion.

ESPN, Inc., is giving sports fans nationwide ten million reasons to demonstrate their passion for fútbol (soccer) and football. ESPN Deportes unveils “Fútbol a Football,” a consumer promotion featuring a $10 million cash giveaway—potentially one of the largest cash giveaways in cable television history.
Fútbol a Football is a four-month, major multi-market consumer promotion centered around soccer and football—two of the most popular programs on ESPN Deportes, ESPN’s Spanish-language television network. Chosen at random from a national sweepstakes, a winner will have the opportunity during halftime of the Rams vs. Cowboys NFL game in Dallas on New Year’s Day to kick an empty-net soccer goal from mid-field, followed by a 40-yard field goal. If the contestant can hit the net and split the uprights on only one attempt each, he or she will take home $10 million. If only one of the kicks is successful, the contestant will receive $25,000. If neither kick is successful, the contestant will receive $10,000 just for trying and being a good sport.
“This is the biggest promotion ESPN has ever rolled out,” said Robyn Remick, vice president, affiliate marketing, Disney and ESPN Media Networks. “We’re using Fútbol a Football to demonstrate the unique value of ESPN Deportes to our viewers, affiliates, and advertisers.”
Added Traug Keller, senior vice president, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio, “Anytime you give people a chance to win ten million dollars, you are going to raise the noise level and we’ll be doing it with all the platforms of the ESPN Deportes brand including radio, print, internet, and of course, television. We think the promotion will hit home with our fans since it involves elements of soccer and football– two sports that have intrinsic appeal to our Latino audience.”
Participants can fill out a sweepstakes entry form on www.espndeportes.com, www.futbolafootball.com, or call 1-800-Deportes to register for the promotion. Consumers will also have the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes at a local ESPN Deportes Fútbol a Football Tour stop. The ESPN Deportes Fútbol a Football Tour will begin on July 26th in Sacramento, CA and hit 12 markets around the country for several consecutive days each. The tour will offer an interactive experience that will feature a backdrop depicting a soccer goalie and a football referee with arms extended. Contestants will have the chance to kick balls through the goalie and the ref and win ESPN Deportes gifts and prizes.
Current ESPN Deportes affiliates can also take advantage of the Fútbol a Football promotion. Each new subscriber to ESPN Deportes can receive three risk-free issues of the new ESPN Deportes Magazine (ESPN Deportes La Revista) and be automatically entered into the national $10 million sweepstakes.
Listen and Win: In each of 18 participating markets, local radio station partners will host a series of drawings and give away a trip to the October 2 NFL game in Mexico City, the first regular season NFL game ever held outside of the U.S.– the Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers. Additional local prizes will include ESPN Deportes premiums and full-size, autographed ESPN Deportes footballs and soccer balls.
