ESPN Deportes Set To Showcase Dominican Baseball League Action.

ESPN Deportes will begin its exclusive telecast of the 2005-’06 Dominican League Baseball season on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. with a match up featuring the defending champions Aguilas Cibaenas and their historic archrival Tigres del Licey.

Pitching legend Juan Marichal, the only Dominican-born player in the Hall of Fame, will serve as lead analyst for a second consecutive season. Joining Marichal for play-by-play will be veteran Dominican League and Major League Baseball announcer Kevin Cabral, with Carlos Jose Lugo as field reporter.

This season, ESPN Deportes plans to offer telecasts of up to 30 Dominican League games including regular season games on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. ET and coverage of the playoffs and finals. On Monday, November 7 at 7 p.m. ET, ESPN Deportes will air a special broadcast of the league featuring the Gigantes del Cibao visiting the Tigres del Licey, which will serve as the back-drop for the 98th anniversary of the founding of the Tigres del Licey.

In addition to the Dominican League, ESPN Deportes also televises extensive coverage of the Mexican winter and summer leagues, the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico and the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, respectively, as well as a complete line-up of regular season Major League Baseball games, the HR Derby and Future Stars Game.

The Dominican Baseball League consists of six teams: Aguilas Cibaenas; Azucareros del Este; Estrellas del Oriente; Gigantes del Cibao; Leones del Escogido; and Tigres del Licey. Each team plays a 50-game schedule, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. The titleholder then goes on to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series to play against the champions of Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
