ESPN Deportes to showcase Dominican Baseball League action.

ESPN Deportes will begin its exclusive telecast of the 2006-2007 regular-season games today featuring Gigantes del Cibao at Leones del Escogido at 6:30 p.m., EST.

Pitching legend Juan Marichal, the only Dominican-born player in the Hall of Fame, will serve as lead analyst for a third consecutive season. Joining Marichal for play-by-play will be veteran Dominican League and Major League Baseball announcer Kevin Cabral, with Carlos José Lugo as field reporter.

This season, ESPN Deportes plans to offer telecasts of up to 30 Dominican Baseball League games, including regular-season games on Friday nights at 6:30 p.m., EST and Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. EST., plus exclusive coverage of the playoffs and Championship Series.

In addition to the Dominican Baseball League, ESPN Deportes also televises extensive coverage of the Mexican winter and summer leagues, the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico and the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, respectively, as well as extensive coverage of the regular season Major League Baseball games, the Home Run Derby and All-Star Futures Game.

The Dominican Baseball League consists of six teams: Águilas Cibaeñas; Azucareros del Este; Estrellas del Oriente; Gigantes del Cibao; Leones del Escogido; and Tigres del Licey. Each team plays a 50-game schedule, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. The titleholder then goes on to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series to play against the champions of Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
