Fernández ‘El Gato’ Joins República Deportiva.

Univision Communications Inc. announced that Félix Fernández, one of Mexican soccer’s biggest stars and most respected sports journalists, has joined the popular anchor team of Fernando Fiore and Rosana Franco on its highly rated weekend sports program “República Deportiva”.

Fernández, known as “El Gato” during his 15 years as one of the Mexican Soccer League’s most celebrated goalies, brings a unique wealth of experience and knowledge to the show thanks to his 10 years as a newspaper columnist, 5 years as a radio commentator, and 3 years as an official of the Mexican Soccer Federation (Federación Mexicana de Fútbol). Having competed in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he will also bring a unique perspective and a host of insights as the soccer world prepares for the upcoming 2006 tournament, to be covered in its entirety on the Univision networks live from Germany next summer.

Set in a neighborhood “sports bar,” “República Deportiva” keeps viewers up to speed on all the latest sports developments and covers the most important international sporting events. In addition to dishing out the latest sports news and information, the program frequently welcomes some of the world’s biggest Hispanic sports stars for one-on-one interviews. “República Deportiva” airs every Sunday on the Univision Network from 11am-1pm ET/PT (10am –12pm Central/Mountain).
