FIU to host 2nd Hispanic Marketing Communication Conference.

Florida International University’s School of Journalism & Mass Communication (SJMC) announced its plans to hold the Hispanic Marketing Communication: Bridging Culture and Behavior Conference, on Nov. 7 – 8, 2013, at its Biscayne Bay Campus.

The proposed multi-day conference is the second event to stem from the SJMC’s Hispanic Communication Studies Conference Series, which launched in fall 2012. For 2013, the Series will focus its attention on Hispanic marketing communication industries to better understand trends and dynamics in a variety of contexts.

The event plans to bring scholars and industry leaders from around the country with ties to the public relations, marketing and advertising fields to share insights through open-forum panel discussions.

“With this conference, academics and professionals, alike, will have an incredible opportunity to not only share information, but also learn new means for effectively communicating with one of the nation’s most influential ethnic groups,” said Raul Reis, Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

The presentations will provide in-depth analysis on the strategies used to relay political, environmental, and health related content, among others, to Hispanic audiences. This event will also give marketers the unique opportunity to hold a focus group with Hispanic FIU students. A poster exhibit from university students nationwide will highlight current research being done regarding Hispanics and communication industries.

“This event is a necessary platform for strengthening the relationship between the marketing communications industry and the scholars who study it, so we can consolidate a greater yield of knowledge about the Hispanic consumer,” said Alejandro Alvarado, chair of the conference and program director of the Telemundo Hispanic Media Futures Program.

Academics and industry professionals from across the nation are invited to contribute papers that provide insight on the topic; while graduate and undergraduate students are invited to submit research posters.
